
The East Usambara Tea Company LTD (EUTCO) is located at an altitude of 900 meters (3000 feet) above mean sea level. The Estates are surrounded by indigenous rain forests, which are considered unique in terms of bio-diversity and are part of the Amani Nature Reserve. The reserve is a bio-diversity hot stop and was declared a World Heritage site because of its many endemic species of flora and fauna. This brings a steady influx of eco-tourists to this area and the numbers are ever increasing. EUTCO also plans to open an eco-tourist lodge on its Estates to tap into this market.
The fundamental objective of EUTCO is to produce tea in the most cost effective, sustainable manner consistent with responsible employment and environmental practices.
The EUTCO Estates comprise of 14,164 hectares of which 2,000 hectares are planted to rain fed tea and 450 hectares to eucalyptus trees. The company produces approximately 4,000 Tones of tea per annum and employs over 3,000 people.
The company has been encouraging out growers by providing plants from our own tea nurseries at subsidized rates. There are now over 150 hectares of out grower tea farmers who have a yield potential of over 250,000 kgs of made tea and this area is continuously expanding on an annual basis.
